Are you listening to the whispers of possibility?
We are so used to listening to the things that are really loud and solid in our worlds, the things we think we are supposed to do, should do, in the right order and in the correct way. As a result we can totally dismiss the whispers of possibilities that are all around us, just waiting to be heard and contribute to us.
What are the whispers of possibility?
The whispers of possibility are where we follow our knowing, our gut instincts, our intuition, that go way beyond the limitations and logic of our minds.
“They won’t let me…”
“I don’t have the time…”
“I have so many other things to do right now…”
“I don’t have the money yet…”
“I’m not at my ideal weight…”
“I’m not quite confident enough…”
“I’ll just watch one more episode of Game of Thrones first…”
Does this sound like something you’ve ever done or thought to yourself?..
Most of our lives we are taught that being the same as everyone else is what makes us good, well behaved and a part of society. We are encouraged to mimic the people around us, and in particular our parents and families. Children are often being told how much they look just like their mother, or behave just like their father, or have similar talents as their siblings.
Were you ever told that you had to have a purpose in life? That there was a reason we’re all here and you just have to find what your purpose is? Only it had better be a good, perfect and correct purpose?!
Do you ever feel like you're going crazy with mind chatter? I used to be the best person I knew at this, I could be having a conversation with someone and still have mind chatter. In fact, if there were a prize for mind chatter I would have been the world champion 100 times over...I was an over achiever in the area!
During my more 'spiritual' times when I was practising meditation and yoga in an attempt to find a sense of peace in my already over active world I would go to sleep and as soon as my head hit the pillow I would be thinking about the following day and all the meetings I would have...while I was sleeping. No dreams for me! For years I tried everything I could think of to have a peaceful night’s sleep… I didn’t even try and quieten my mind during the day, that would have been a whole other mission impossible. I was going to take this in baby steps!
I remember years ago when I began my professional working career I was invited to a week in Madrid where 24 candidates would be analysed and interviewed in a board-meeting setting for a full 5 days, in order to determine who in the group would get the job.
